Excavator crashes into the track bed at Munich Central Station and sweeps away the driver

An accident occurred during construction work at Munich Central Station on Thursday night.
A small excavator tipped forward and fell onto the track bed together with the driver.
Munich – There was a lot of noise on platform 22 at Munich Central Station on Thursday night.
An excavator had probably taken its shovel too full and overturned.
The vehicle and driver fell onto the track bed.

At around 9:30 p.m., a call from the integrated control center reached the Federal Police at Munich Central Station.
The news: An excavator has tipped over into the track bed on platform 22.
The officials then immediately made their way to the scene of the accident.
But not without first looking at the surveillance videos of the affected section.
It showed that the 38-year-old engineer from Bulgaria was digging a hole with a small excavator.
When he pulled up the shovel - fully loaded with stones and sand - the accident happened.
The excavator got a list and tipped forward, according to the Federal Police press release.

Two of his colleagues immediately came to the operator's aid.
They pulled him out of the excavator and helped him onto the track.
There they waited for the rescue workers.
The 38-year-old complained of pain in his spine.
After initial care on site, the man went to a Munich clinic accompanied by an emergency doctor.
Since construction work was being carried out on the track anyway, the accident had no impact on train traffic.
"According to the current status, the excavator can be repaired again after the salvage," the press release continues.
