Munich Mayor Reiter will decide on Friday (April 29) whether the Oktoberfest 2022 will take place.

Prime Minister Markus Söder warns of another cancellation.

Munich – The Oktoberfest should take place without corona rules and conditions.

The city of Munich plans to announce its decision on Friday (April 29).

Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) warned in advance of a renewed cancellation - and does not expect it either.

"From a legal point of view, there is no reason to refuse the Wiesn.

The Oktoberfest would also be important from a human and mental point of view," said Söder in an interview with the Munich newspaper.

With six million visitors, the largest folk festival in the world, canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to Corona, is planned for September 17th to October 3rd this year.

Söder does not consider Corona or the Ukraine war to be a reason for cancellation.

“My feeling is that people need hope.

We should not deny them this moment of breather and joie de vivre.”

Oktoberfest 2022: Markus Söder excludes corona requirements and hotspot regulations

Söder ruled out corona requirements or a hotspot regulation for Munich or the Festwiese.

"There is no legal basis for this under the traffic light law." He referred to the house rules of the landlords in the tent, but emphasized: "There is no general requirement.

There is also no reason to overreact now or even lock people out in advance.”

The second mayor in Munich, Katrin habenharm (Greens), promotes the Wiesn.

Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) had publicly stated that he personally found it difficult to imagine a beer festival if people were being killed in a brutal war of aggression in Munich's twin city of Kyiv at the same time.

He is also said to have considered internally opening the Oktoberfest only to those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered - which is no longer legally possible under the traffic light law.

Oktoberfest 2022: Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter wants to announce the decision on Friday

Reiter will announce his decision on Friday (April 29).

In politics and business, it is expected that he will pave the way for the festival, perhaps combined with a few warning words.

Oktoberfest host Christian Schottenhamel also told our editorial team: "The whole world will be happy when the Oktoberfest takes place again.

It is a symbol that we have put an end to the pandemic.

The Wiesn has survived so many wars and epidemics and will do the same with Corona.”
