The late former mayor Erich Pürkner still has many friends on the city council.

Puchheim – All parliamentary groups are now following a request from the CSU to name a street or a square after the long-standing town hall chief when the opportunity arises.

The Union politician ruled from 1970 to 1988 in the town hall.

During his tenure, five schools, new libraries and fire stations, the Ikarus Park and the sports center were built.

The closure of the level crossing and the bypass of the Puchheim train station also took place in these years.

And of course the plane.

The SPD unreservedly supported the project: "If the CSU hadn't done it, we would have submitted the application," said its parliamentary group leader Jean-Marie Leone.

Because you have to be thankful for these 18 years, "today we are reaping a lot of what he sowed".

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular FFB newsletter.)

The fact that Pürkner deserved the honor was not doubted in other factions either.

However, Wolfgang Wuschig (ubp) initially wanted to have a street named after the garbage factory founder Julius Einhorn.

Because without his 30-year work, no subsequent mayor of Puchheim would have been able to achieve much.

Michaela von Hagen (FW) recalled that "many women" had long since deserved their own street.

Whether the former mayor gets a street or an entire square, maybe even a Pürkner ring, is still an open question.

He will probably be honored in the future construction area on Alpenstraße, and the city center might also be an option.

The CSU had abandoned the proposal to rename Poststrasse.

Even if there hasn't been any post there for a long time and it still leads to the town hall: asking 27 private individuals, four medical practices and two commercial companies to change their addresses is out of the question.

Erich Pürkner was elected in 1970 to succeed Heinrich Müller, who had resigned. In 1988 he was surprisingly overthrown by Herbert Kränzlein (SPD).

The trained lawyer then worked as a lawyer, most recently in his own law firm in Puchheim.

In 2014 he ran again in the local elections and was elected to the city council despite a lower place on the CSU list.

He died in September last year at the age of 81.

His successor in office, Norbert Seidl, gave the eulogy at the funeral.
