"Asphalt melts": India's heavy heat wave breaks records Israel today

2022-04-30T20:47:56.623Z

April this year was the hottest in 72 years in Delhi, with an average temperature of 40.2 degrees and in other cities in India even broke the record ever measured

A severe heat wave is sweeping India, Pakistan and other countries in the region and has already begun to break records in some places.

The severe heat started on Wednesday and does not appear to be breaking until mid-week.

On Friday, the temperature in the capital Delhi ranged from 43 to 46.2 degrees, and some of the asphalt in the streets melted.

According to the Times of India, April this year was the hottest in 72 years in Delhi, with an average temperature of 40.2 degrees and in other cities in India even breaking the record ever measured.

The highest temperature in the country ever measured was 48, in 1958.

If that wasn’t enough, in the city of Nuwashha in neighboring Pakistan measured 47.5, the hottest temperature in the northern hemisphere this year.

Over 50 places in India have reported at least 44 degrees

The concern is that beyond the immediate health concerns for the Indians and the peoples of the region, there will also be implications for the global food supply because crops like wheat are drying up faster than expected in the heat on such a scale.

And there is a growing fear of fires, as well as melting glaciers that will cause flooding.
