The SPD in the district of Munich is concerned about social peace and warns of the consequences of the housing shortage.

She also sharply criticizes the state government for an alleged Apple deal.

District

– The housing shortage threatens social peace.

The SPD has not just been warning of the consequences of the crisis since yesterday.

At the annual general meeting of the district association, the chairman, Florian Schardt, referred to unused areas in the middle of Munich and accused the state government of giving preference to prestige properties.

Since 2017, the state property on Seidlstrasse, corner of Karlstrasse, has been lying unused.

Around 430 apartments could relieve the tense real estate market: space for 1250 people, as Schardt let the comrades in the Hofbräuhaus know.

The sub-district chairman drew parallels to the Osram site in Untergiesing.

In recent years, a sustainable quarter with 420 apartments, plenty of greenery and open spaces has been created on an area of 3.3 hectares.

Both lots are about the same size.

A unique opportunity, Schardt thinks;

not just to let air out of the boiler: Here there would be the opportunity to set an example.

"Why does the Free State have to support the most economically valuable brand in the world?"

The heavily criticized sale of 32,000 apartments from the non-profit Bavarian housing association in 2013 by BayernLB, the state bank, is vividly remembered by many.

Schardt accuses the state government of reserving Seidlstrasse 15 to 19 for the "Apple" group.

"Why does the Free State have to support the economically most valuable brand in the world?" the SPD spokesman, who lives in Ottobrunn, called out to the comrades.

A rhetorical question.

Those who were among the normal earners in the boardroom will not be able to afford their own living space in the foreseeable future.

Especially not in Munich.

Apple would like to set up a campus for several thousand employees on the Maxvorstadt site.

Recently it became known that two Bavarian ministries, the interior and economy, are also interested in Seidlstrasse,

to save millions in rental costs elsewhere.

Under these circumstances, who would even waste a thought on apartments?

Schardt is extremely annoyed.

Affordable housing is one of the favorite topics of the 40-year-old, whose star began to shine in the SPD a good three years ago.

Another field that Schardt is working on is renewable energies.

In this case, too, the state government would slow down the change, which he believes is overdue, with a “series of nonsensical prestige objects”.

hydrogen for example.

As soon as the first hydrogen-powered bus rolls out of the workshop, the next best CSU student would jump in front of the camera with a pretty smile, Schardt blasphemed.

"Even the MVV is critical of hydrogen buses." And what, if you please, is this hydrogen-powered Danube excursion boat supposed to do?

"Hydrogen requires electricity," said Schardt.

Two thirds of this most expensive of all energies would be lost in the power plant and during transport.

War in Ukraine: Hospitality ensures the spatial confinement

In turn, the Free State would have difficulties with wind turbines for electricity production.

Against the background of rising living costs and a flagging energy supply, Schardt fears for the social peace in the republic.

The situation on the housing market has become even more dramatic as a result of the Ukraine war.

Of the 4,600 refugees in the district, 3,700 are housed privately, not least because of the high real estate prices.

Despite all the hospitality, the spatial confinement causes tension.

There is a potential for conflict here that should not be underestimated.

Schardt recalled Article 14 of the Basic Law, which protects private living space and at the same time obliges owners to serve the common good.

In the years since the financial crisis of 2007, owners of large areas have benefited enormously.

Schardt would like to see the public interest obligation associated with Article 14 move more to the fore.
