For the first time: Forces will practice a war scenario in Wadi Ara Israel today

2022-04-30T22:29:51.997Z

Against the background of the security situation, the police and the IDF will conduct an exercise that simulated, among other things, riots in mixed and Arab cities • Senior police officer: "We learned lessons from the 'Wall Guard'"

We do not want surprises like in the Wall Guard operation:

against the background of the security situation, the police and the IDF will hold a large-scale exercise next week, in which the Wadi Ara road is also expected to be closed for the first time.

The exercise resembled a missile attack on Israel from Lebanon and Gaza, while escalating in Judea and Samaria and slipping into the Green Line into riots in mixed localities such as Lod, Ramla, Haifa and Jerusalem, and in Arab localities such as Sakhnin, Nazareth, Umm al-Fahm and the Bedouin diaspora in the south. The closure of Highway 65 will be simulated for the first time, for the purpose of the passage of takeover forces and special units to deal with riots.

"We are on a medium to high alert with an emphasis on everything related to internal security and riots, including preparedness for any situation of external threats," a senior police officer told Israel Today. We built intelligence sensors with the IDF and the GSS to prevent a situation in which he was "surprised."

In the past year, a police headquarters has been built for each district, numbering about 500 trained police officers.

Warriors were trained to fire sponge bullets.

The exercise will also include flying skimmers that will lay "surprise eggs" (material for dispersing crowds), if the forces get caught in serious disturbances.

Also in the program: practice observation capabilities built in the past year for each commander, and practice opening emergency depots and equipping the reserve forces.

"This time we will not have to get guns from the army," the officer said.

"We have the means to give every policeman who enlists."

According to him, the recruitment of reserve companies of the Judea and Samaria Border Police "will constitute force multipliers and a tie-breaker in the strength of the police response."

The police and the IDF will practice descriptions of escorting IDF convoys.

There will be no situation in which vehicles move in the country and endanger themselves. "The police claim that the IDF does not accept responsibility." The police are in charge.

"The IDF will act on auxiliary missions to the police."

The exercise will be part of an "safe route" to eradicate crime in Arab localities, in which the police are concentrating a special effort in the fight against crime and violence on the Arab streets.

Police sources said that one of the scenarios that will be emphasized, is related to the fear that weapons used by the criminals on a daily basis are also being leaked for the use of terrorist elements.

So far, as part of the operation, led by Police Commissioner Renz Yaakov Shabtai and Chief of Staff Yigal Ben Shalom, 73 spray and stun grenades, 64 pistols, 20 Airsoft weapons, 42 rifles, 24 Carl Gustav rifles, 18 hives were seized. Fireworks, 4 shells and shrapnel, 12 explosive devices and one laboratory for the production of explosives and the conversion of weapons in favor of live fire.

Alongside this, thousands of weapons were seized: bullets of various kinds, cartridges, vests, binoculars and other equipment that could be used by the criminals.

"The Arab public for the most part does not want criminal criminals near their homes, and does not want elements of terrorism in its locality," the senior officer added.

"Any weapon seized in a job that involves intelligence gathering and field work can be used by the next terrorist tomorrow. Therefore, we are making a tremendous effort to remove all illegal weapons from the Arab street. It does not matter to us if they are held by one criminal or another; "Because tomorrow, in exchange for greed, the same criminal will sell the weapon to the terrorist."
