It borders on a miracle that people can still live in the completely destroyed Mariupol - and yet many persevere. Even the fighters in the besieged steelworks do not think about giving up.

Donetsk Border Command soldiers sing the Ukrainian national anthem.

The recordings are said to have been made in a basement of the Asovstal steelworks in Mariupol.

Their situation seems hopeless: Hundreds, possibly thousands of people are stuck in the plant, which Putin had his troops cordon off over a large area.

The shelling continues, smoke rises again and again, shots can be heard again and again.

The completely destroyed Mariupol resembles a ghost town.

That people can still survive here at all borders on a miracle.

This woman is making pancakes in front of her bombed-out house.

Her brother's building was also destroyed.
