On April 27, the police received a report from a 25-year-old man, saying that his 150,000 yuan cash in a room at 36-44 Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui was missing and suspected to have been stolen.
According to the information and after in-depth investigation, officers from the 3rd Team of Yau Tsim Police District Criminal Investigation Team arrested a 44-year-old local man surnamed Bao in Mong Kok District at about 5 pm yesterday (30th) on suspicion of theft and was arrested in his unit. The clothes that the man suspected to be wearing at the time of the crime were seized, and part of the cash and goods purchased with the lost money were recovered.
The arrested man is being detained for investigation.
The police reiterated that theft is a serious crime. According to Article 9 of the Theft Ordinance, Chapter 210 of the Laws of Hong Kong, the offence of theft is punishable by up to 10 years in prison upon conviction.
The police also appealed to the public to be careful about their belongings, to avoid placing valuables in conspicuous places, and to keep valuables close by or locked for safekeeping as much as possible, so as not to be exploited by thieves.
