The airport in the port city of Odessa was hit on Saturday by a strike which destroyed its runway, without causing any casualties, announced the governor of the region, Maxim Marchenko.

Eight people were killed in Russian strikes a week ago on the historic city of Odessa, home to nearly a million people, so far relatively spared from the fighting.

The Russian army then claimed to have targeted with "high precision missiles" a large depot of weapons delivered to the Ukrainian forces by the United States and European countries, near Odessa.

On April 10, the airport of Dnipro, an industrial city of one million inhabitants in eastern Ukraine, was "completely destroyed" by Russian bombing, according to regional authorities.
