Ukrainian president announces efforts to evacuate remaining civilians from Azobestal factory in besieged city

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zalansky addressed the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the besieged city of Mariupol and accused the Russians of creating a "concentration camp inside the ruins" after the Russian military halted an attempt to evacuate civilians from the besieged Asobstal steel plant.

"Mariupol was one of the most developed and advanced cities in the east. Today it is a Russian concentration camp sitting in ruins. The fighting in the east shows that the plan of the Russians is to empty the Donbas region of its inhabitants, and they have the tools to do so, they have enough artillery and planes to return the area , Said the Ukrainian president in an interview with a Polish journalist.

Meanwhile, the attempted evacuation from the Azobestal steel plant complex, where about 2,000 fighters and another 1,000 civilians are fortified, continues to be blocked by the Russian army.

In Uina it was reported that about 200 residents of Mariupol, who sought evacuation to the city of Zaporizhia, were blocked by the Russian army and dispersed with beatings.

Mayor Petro Andreyushchenko said of the incident: "People were beaten, they were not allowed to get on the buses."

The Russians sent buses to another point in the city, where they forced the residents to evacuate to Dokuchevsk in the territory occupied by Russia, and prevented them from getting off the buses.

Authorities in the city have estimated that over 20,000 civilians have been killed in the city of Mariupol since the Russian invasion began in late February.

The fighting in the country has taken the form of an excavation war in the last two days, with both sides exchanging artillery blows in the Donbas region, but neither side is advancing.

In the area of the city of Kharkiv, on the other hand, the Ukrainians launched a counterattack with two pliers and managed to liberate the towns of Ruska Lazuba and Mutoba from the Russian army.

Photos released from the battlefield showed a large amount of Russian armored vehicles and tanks destroyed or captured by the advanced Ukrainians.

Residents liberated by the Ukrainian forces in Bruska Lazova came to greet the soldiers and told about life under occupation.

"The Russian soldiers cut off the electricity and water in the village. They arrested a boy who was riding his bicycle, covered his head with a garbage bag and beat him. We were very scared. He has been in the basement for nearly two months," Tatiana Afimovna, a resident of the town, told AFP.
