Christian Jacob: “The legislative elections are not the third round of the presidential election”

2022-05-01T12:06:19.242Z

Guest of the “Grand Jury” RTL-Le Figaro-LCI on Sunday, the boss of the Republicans preferred to register the right in constructive opposition to Emmanuel Macron rather than pleading for cohabitation.

Above all, do not nationalize the ballot.

Unlike Jean-Luc Mélenchon (LFI) and Marine Le Pen (RN), who very quickly got back in the saddle after their failure, Les Républicains consider that "the legislative elections are not the third round of the presidential election".

In other words, that the battle which begins for the June elections must be as local as possible, to be part of the extension of the success of the municipal, departmental and regional... Rather than in the continuity of the recorded fiasco by Valérie Pécresse (4.78%) on April 10.

Guest of the "Grand Jury" RTL-

Le Figaro

-LCI on Sunday, the boss of the right, Christian Jacob, therefore strived to highlight the "

ground anchorage

" of his troops.

It is the difference of our elected officials (outgoing) compared to the other candidates: they have this establishment

”, he underlined, estimating that “

the 577 territories of France (will have) to be represented

” at the end of the vote.

The presidential majority embodied a deep divide between Paris and the rest of France.

But “the rest of France” is called upon to express itself

,” he urged.

Calling on his camp to break with the "

Parisianism

" of Emmanuel Macron, and to come "to

bridge the divide

centralizer of the last five years.

Nicolas Sarkozy is today "an up-to-date member" at LR

To achieve this, the Republicans hope

for "reconquests

" in certain constituencies, while they hold a hundred to date.

Which makes them the first opposition force in the National Assembly, of course.

But relegates them despite everything far enough from the absolute majority, which requires crossing the bar of 289 deputies, and makes it possible to impose cohabitation on the head of state.

"

We have never been for chaos, revolution, or the blocking of institutions

", soberly dodged Christian Jacob, refusing to subscribe to this perspective.

"

We act responsibly.

When projects go in the right direction, we vote for them, we have always assumed this very clearly.

On the other hand, when they are not going in the right direction, we oppose them.

(…) We have never been in systematic opposition

,” he added.

Giving lip service that yes, François Baroin could become prime minister if he wins.

If we have a majority, we will be in a position to govern, trust us.

(…) When there is only that to solve, believe me, it will be quickly solved

, ”he quipped.

Read alsoChristian Jacob: “We are either LR or LREM.

This line applies to everyone”

And for good reason, his political family is now plagued by divisions.

Caught between Emmanuel Macron on one side, and Marine Le Pen and Éric Zemmour on the other, the Republican right is struggling to make its voice heard.

The line of independence is the only possible one.

I hear all the reflections on a government pact, on a rally with the presidential majority... It has a name, it's the single party.

It's the monarchy.

It is “all at the service of the monarch”

, asserts Christian Jacob, who “

does not forbid anyone to think

” or to have “

doubts

”.

But remember that "

double membership does not exist

".

Including for Nicolas Sarkozy, who is today

".

And to whom it will be up, tomorrow, to “

take the responsibilities which are his

”.

Leaves, in the event of a clear rapprochement with Emmanuel Macron, to take with him part of the LR.
