The state elections in Schleswig-Holstein start on May 8th.

The election campaign of the Greens is overshadowed in several places.

Kiel – The final sprint before the 2022 state elections begins in Schleswig-Holstein. The parties tried to convince the voters at numerous events before the polling stations open next Sunday (May 8th).

The CDU had to do without their top candidate.

A corona test at Daniel Günther was still positive.

This was announced by the incumbent prime minister on Facebook.

For the time being, he will not leave the domestic isolation.

Due to Daniel Günther's illness, the TV trial scheduled for Tuesday with the other two top candidates Thomas Losse-Müller (SPD) and Finance Minister Monika Heinold (Greens) was postponed to Wednesday.

Before the round, the CDU in particular enjoys a clear lead - supported by the high level of approval for Günter.

74 percent of those entitled to vote in Schleswig-Holstein are satisfied with his work.

61 percent would choose him directly.

According to the latest polls, his party can count on up to 38 percent.

They are followed by the SPD (20%) and the Greens (17%).

The FDP (7%) and AfD (5%) have to tremble about entering parliament - unlike the party of the Danish minority: the SSW is exempt from the 5 percent hurdle.

State elections in Schleswig-Holstein: Baerbock is booed

Like Chancellor Olaf Scholz at a May Day demonstration in Berlin, Green Party Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock was described as a "warmonger" and "liar" during an appearance in Ahrensburg the day before.

Baerbock appeared together with top candidate Heinold at a campaign event before the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein.

Around 150 opponents tried to disrupt the performance with sirens and whistles.

On Saturday morning, an event planned in Lübeck before the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein was canceled for security reasons.

Baerbock should have performed there too.

According to the police, unknown persons had sprayed butyric acid on the open-air stage.

"Even such cowardly attacks will not change our political positions," said Heinold in the evening.

According to polls for the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein, Daniel Günther (left, CDU) is ahead with his party.

This is followed by the SPD with its top candidate Thomas Losse-Müller.

State elections in Schleswig-Holstein: SPD continues to be combative

Despite the loud criticism of politics in the Ukraine conflict, the Greens can hope to improve their 2017 election results in Schleswig-Holstein.

According to current surveys and forecasts, it could even be enough for a two-party coalition with the CDU.

Just like the FDP, she had spoken out in favor of a relaunch of the Jamaica coalition.

However, neither the Greens nor the SSW wanted to commit themselves.

The SPD continues to be combative in Schleswig-Holstein and hopes for a boost from Berlin.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz will appear at an election campaign event in Kiel on Friday.

Scholz is accompanied by the party executive.

Both Saskia Esken and Lars Klingbeil have announced a visit.

Despite his party's poor poll numbers, Klingbeil is confident.

"Many people are still undecided and we have a great top candidate in Thomas Losse-Müller," said the SPD leader to the dpa news agency.
