Tegernsee - The "Long Night of Art" is going into a new edition.

Museums, galleries and studios around Lake Tegernsee open from mid-May until late in the evening.

Museums, galleries and artists' studios will open their doors again at an unusual hour in 2022 - this year based on the International Museum Day on May 13th and 14th.

Under the motto "Light connects", the evening art encounter will be accompanied by illuminations of the Tegernsee power station at the participating museums.

It is rare to find as many high-quality artists and cultural workers in rural areas as there are in the Tegernsee valley.

After the "Long Night of Art" was successfully held for the first time in 2021, this diversity will again be made accessible to a broad audience with a two-day event.

Based on the International Museum Day, visitors can visit three museums, which are illuminated in the evening hours, as well as participating galleries and artist studios.

The museums and galleries have extended opening hours until 10 p.m.

The artist studios are open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The program at Tegernsee:

  • The Olaf Gulbransson Museum in Tegernsee, a branch of the Munich Pinakothek, is showing the permanent exhibition of the Norwegian painter and Simplicissimus draftsman as well as the special exhibition "Ja so san's" by Ernst Hürlimann.

  • The Museum Tegernseer Tal presents over 850 exhibits from the 14th to the 20th century and thus shows the special importance the region already had in the Middle Ages.

The extended special exhibition "150 years of the history of Brandner Kasper" can also be seen.

  • Both museums offer guided tours through the exhibitions.

  • The Museum Jagerhaus Gmund will be there for the first time. As the home of the royal district hunter and “wild hunter of Gmund”, Johann Baptist Mayr (1786-1834), visitors will be taken back to the time around 1800 up close.

During the “Long Night of Art”, the annual regional art exhibition “Gmundart” also opens its doors there.

  • The accompanying exhibition by Christian Awe “Ikagai” will take place in the Spa & Resort Bachmair Weissach and an exhibition with paintings by Suse Kohler in the Bachmair Weissach Clubhouse in Tegernsee.

  • In addition, different galleries open on both days and local artists let you look over their shoulders at work in their studios.

  • Due to construction work on Feldstraße, the carriage museum in Rottach-Egern will not be there this year

Admission to the participating museums, galleries and studios is free of charge during the "Long Night of Art".

From Monday, May 2nd, visitors will receive free admission wristbands from the tourist information offices and participating partners, which entitle them to free travel by bus (RVO ring line) around Lake Tegernsee.
