The fireworks displays on Independence Day will not take place this year, Mayor Ron Huldai announced today (Sunday).
As you may recall, a few months ago a Battle Hall campaign was launched calling for the cancellation of fireworks displays, due to the suffering they cause to post-traumatic people, people with special needs and animals.
"Every whistle and explosion returns our parts to the darkest moments. And for what? You can easily replace the fireworks with a different kind of entertainment: laser shows, silent fireworks, skimmer shows and more," the campaign said.

Tel Aviv-Yafo Mayor Ron Huldai said: "We are attentive to the hearts of the public and after much thought and many struggles, which also included a comprehensive survey, I decided that there will be no fireworks at Independence Day ceremonies this year."
"One of the things that decided and influenced the decision was appeals from post-traumatic warriors seeking to cancel the show, as well as consideration for the population of people with disabilities. I hope next year there is an equally environmentally friendly and impressive alternative, and even more so," Huldai concluded.
