According to Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), the war in Ukraine is threatening a global hunger crisis.
"This war will have consequences, consequences all over the world," Scholz said on Sunday at a DGB rally on Labor Day in Düsseldorf.
“We already have to worry that there are some who will starve, that there are countries that can no longer afford grain for their people.
Düsseldorf - That this whole war situation is also leading to a global hunger crisis." Scholz was referring to the fact that the Ukraine, one of the world's great breadbaskets, is massively restricted in its export opportunities due to the war.
He assured: "We will not leave these poor countries alone, we will support them." dpa
