The Jerusalem District Attorney's Office filed an indictment this morning (Sunday) against Mahmoud Jamal, a 76-year-old Jerusalem resident, for a violent robbery he committed about two weeks ago. Among the charges: burglary of a residence, aggravated robbery and assault of an elderly person.
According to the indictment, filed through attorney Ahuvia Stern, the defendant, along with another person, broke into the home of the complainant, an 80-year-old woman, and began collecting her belongings in order to steal them.
After the elderly woman started shouting for help, the two attacked her.
Defendant punched her and strangled her as he dropped her on the nearby bed and threatened her life.
The complainant struggled with the accused, scratched him in the face and kicked his fallen cell phone.
The defendant continued to attack with his hands as he called out to her: "Where is the cell phone?"
After the neighbors heard her screams they arrived at her house and upon their arrival, the accused left her and ran away from the house.
As a result of the actions of Jamal and his partner, the complainant was injured and her home was damaged.
The indictment attributes to the defendant the commission of offenses of breaking into a residence together with intent to commit a crime, robbery in aggravated circumstances together and assaulting an elderly person.
The prosecution asked the court to order the arrest of the accused until the end of the legal proceedings against him.
