The Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejected the accusations made by the Colombian authorities that the Venezuelan forces violated Colombia's land and air borders.
"The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the statement issued by the Colombian Foreign Ministry yesterday, which alleges that the Venezuelan National Armed Forces have violated Colombia's land and air borders in Norte de Santander, west of the border," the ministry said in a statement posted on its website today.
"The Venezuelan military was conducting an operation to combat drug smuggling in the border state of Sulia," the statement said.
The Colombian-Venezuelan border in this region passes through the northwestern Andean region, which is the cocaine-producing region and is characterized by rugged terrain, which attracts international drug smuggling groups.
