The Minister of Communications referred to the wave of terrorism and reports on the flags being hoisted in recent days • "We are not fighting the flags, this is not the incident - we are fighting terrorism"

Communications Minister Yoaz Handel this morning (Sunday) referred to reports that PLO flags have been hoisted undisturbed on the Temple Mount in recent days, saying: "We are not fighting the flags, this is not the incident - we are fighting terrorism."

Handel, who spoke to reporters at the entrance to the cabinet meeting, added: "I know a lot of phenomena of flags that appear in all sorts of places in the country - this has been the case in the past. I do not want to draw attention to any practice of flag "And in the Galilee and also on the Temple Mount, and these are the phenomena that need to be dealt with. The line of thought and the line of sight should not be diverted to marginal places, and yet, such flags should not be."

Handel avoided answering the "Israel Today" question regarding the assessments that behind the scenes there are contacts with Jordan regarding the status quo on the Temple Mount.

This was after it was reported this morning that the BRAAM had conditioned the party's return to the coalition in accepting Jordanian demands for "corrections" in the status quo, including an increase in the number of Waqf members.

"There is a status quo and it is that Muslim citizens can pray - not terrorists," he said.

"Anyone who comes to commit terrorism and hit or throw stones should not be there."

Regarding the wave of terror and violence, Handel said that "there are no excuses for Arab violence against Jews. There are no excuses for throwing stones on the Temple Mount, no excuses for lack of governance and sovereignty in the Negev and Galilee, and no political constellation that stops the State of Israel from doing the right thing. "I call on the opposition to help in places where legislation is needed - I hope the good of the state takes precedence over their political guidelines."
