It took a long time and even exhausted an investor: But now the new care center in Unterammergau could finally be inaugurated.

Unterammergau

– The mishap happened at the champagne reception: the champagne glass mixed with orange juice slipped off the tray and shattered with a clatter on the floor.

"Brings luck," says one thoughtfully.

"That's a good sign," another guest of honor uses a different phrase.

When a gust of wind whirled the small ceramic flower pots off the high tables during the speeches, the well-known hint "shards bring luck" had to be used.

In any case, superstitious people got their money's worth at the opening ceremony of the Paradia care center in Unterammergau.

The inauguration party in the future senior citizens' retreat had to be postponed four times in advance.

Obstacles abounded as well.

In the end, even the operator jumped off.

Now it just had to happen, and it worked: Werner Schilcher, CEO of Investor Primus Concept, handed over the business to Sabine Fäller.

"I'm really happy that it's starting now," emphasizes the head of the facility.

The grievances that have accumulated on Scherenauer Strasse in recent years have apparently been forgotten: Corona pandemic, delivery problems, increase in construction costs and the insolvency of the general contractor and operator Sympathia.

Sabine Faller didn't want to say too many words about it.

It should be noted that the entire burden of the past few years - the groundbreaking ceremony for the senior citizens' facility took place under former mayor Michael Gansler in 2019 - fell away completely at the opening ceremony.

"It took so long, let's not hang around for so long," she urges the other speakers to keep it short.

For three years, Fäller accompanied the construction and got involved with the operators – first Sympathia, then Tarentum.

"Now I'm going back to my actual job: home management, management",

I hope that the house will be a success story, that the residents will have a nice home, nice accommodation, a highlight in the Ammertal.

District Administrator Anton Speer

The other keynote speakers also briefly look back on the trials and tribulations of the major project.

"It was finished much too late, we would have liked to have celebrated earlier," Schilcher explains.

"The problems in the course of the project" is the subject of Anton Speer's "home game".

The district administrator from Unterammergau, like everyone else, was happily looking ahead.

"I have hope that the house will be a success story, that the residents will have a beautiful home, beautiful accommodation, a highlight in the Ammer Valley."

According to Speer, politics has recently missed a lot, but now improving care is being made a core issue.

However, there is still a lack of “affordable housing for the nursing staff”.

For Mayor Robert Stumpfecker, the new facility means an opportunity for local development.

In addition, jobs are created.

It should be 80 to 100, reveals Sabine Faller.

Around 150 residents will soon be living in the house.

"We're growing by ten percent in a short time," emphasizes the town hall chief of the 1,500-inhabitant community.

"A small village got a big project."

Thomas Maass provides further facts and figures.

The 91 apartments with inpatient care places and 25 apartments have all been sold to investors, reports the spokesman for Primu Concept.

The building consists of four structures that are connected to each other.

"A four-sided farm," notes Stumpfecker, who feels reminded of old forms of agriculture.

The living area for the seniors is 3300 square meters, the total area is 6770 square meters.

Maass regrets that the investment sum – 18.5 million euros were planned – could not be kept.

The construction costs rose, the investors waited for the money and had to be compensated, but the spokesman is unable to quantify the final financial expense.

The start alone had gone extremely badly: because of the soft ground, 800 posts had to be sunk,

on which the base plate was placed.

This made the project even more expensive.

The clergy provided heavenly support.

The evangelical pastor Peter Sachi, deacon Jörg Lücke and dean Thomas Gröner asked for the blessing of the home.

During a tour, those responsible led through the house.

Maass also pointed out a special feature.

In each of the four buildings there are two so-called marketplaces on each floor.

The seniors can prepare drinks there at any time and have seating.

“They are geared towards the resident group.

They can sit here and eat together.

The residents should form a unit.” What a beautiful message.
