London-Sana

A British study warned of the negative effects of the use of social media on the mental health of adolescents.

According to the website “The Verge”, researchers from the University of Cambridge explained that the use of social media is significantly and negatively associated with mental health in adolescents, especially during the period when they accept to discover life and rely on self in making decisions.

After conducting a survey of data on 17,000 people during adolescence, the researchers concluded that the effect of high and low use of communication platforms for people in the age group between 16 and 21 years was similar in terms of their association with a low level of life satisfaction.

Adolescence is a time full of cognitive, biological and social changes that interact with social media platforms in interesting ways, and there may be a great deal of change between how different individuals use social media platforms and the extent to which they affect their lives, said Amy Urbin, Director of the Digital Mental Health Program at the University.
