Sales of the nine-euro ticket for public transport will start on June 1st.

Here we answer the nine most important questions about the savings campaign.

Munich – Be on the road for a whole month for nine euros: with public transport in the city, with the S-Bahn to the country or with the regional train to the other end of Bavaria.

If you like, you can even trundle all the way to the North Sea at such a low price.

The federal government promises this for three summer months and is setting new standards with the nine-euro ticket.

Just a few days ago, the cabinet in Berlin gave the green light for the savings campaign, which is part of the 2022 relief package.

A step that causes divided opinions.

"This is very good news for Munich and the region," says Dr.

Bernd Rosenbusch, head of the MVV.

"The ticket gives us a great offer to win back customers and encourage new customers to use the bus and train." Those who travel publicly save on petrol and diesel.

"We are energy efficient, which is very important these days."

Nine-euro ticket in the 2022 relief package: Bavaria's Minister of Transport considers the ticket to be a "deceptive package"

Bavaria's Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter (CSU), on the other hand, is harshly critical of the federal plans - and at the same time calls for improvements in financing.

Berlin should stick to its promise to fully cover the cost of the ticket.

"The nine-euro monthly ticket is still a sham," complains Bernreiter.

"A not inconsiderable part of the burden is unloaded at the federal states, municipalities and transport companies." The latter are meanwhile preparing for the introduction of the ticket.

What do customers need to know now?

Mercury gives all the answers to the most important questions:

When is the nine-euro ticket valid?

The promotion runs from June 1st to August 31st.

In Bavaria, this affects the Pentecost holidays (June 7th to 18th) and part of the summer holidays from August 1st.

On which trains is the nine-euro ticket valid?

The savings ticket should be valid throughout Germany – in local and regional transport.

It applies to trams, buses, underground and S-Bahn trains and regional trains, but not to ICE, IC and EC trains, Flix trains and Flix buses.

Relief package 2022: Where can I buy the nine-euro ticket in Bavaria?

Where do I buy the ticket?

The federal government is planning an online platform through which the ticket can be booked digitally.

If you have a smartphone, you can also get it via the MVG app from June 1st.

If you prefer paper, you can go to the counters and machines, where the ticket will probably be available from May 22nd.

Do subscribers benefit too?

Yes!

If you have a subscription, you only pay nine euros per month without an additional ticket.

"You don't need to do anything," says the MVG.

The difference will be charged.

Can bicycles be taken along free of charge?

According to ADAC probably not.

A separate bicycle ticket is therefore still required.

Do you have to cancel the nine-euro ticket again?

No, it ends on August 31st.

Aren't buses and trains overloaded during this time?

The MVG does not assume that – also because the number of passengers is currently lower than before the corona pandemic.

Throughout Germany, industry experts are already expecting trains to be fuller – especially during the holiday season.

What are the next political steps?

Next, the Bundestag must agree and then the Bundesrat.

The regional chamber will probably deal with the nine-euro ticket on May 20th so that it can be valid on June 1st.

Next week it will be a topic at the conference of transport ministers.

What is still being argued about now?

The federal government has promised to reimburse the responsible federal states for a loss of revenue of 2.5 billion euros.

In addition, there are 1.2 billion euros for another pandemic-related rescue package.

The other half of this is taken over by the federal states.

They had actually demanded 1.6 billion from the federal government.

Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) argues: In the period of the nine-euro ticket, there will be no reduced income due to the pandemic.

That's why the federal government only gives 1.2 billion euros - making a total of 3.7 billion euros from the federal government.
