Fraudsters keep trying to get sensitive bank data via phishing e-mails.

It is not the first fraudulent e-mail that our author supposedly receives from the Sparkasse.

He therefore asked why nothing is changing.

Bad Tölz

- "The S-Payment department of the savings banks", it says enticingly in the e-mail to the named author of this report, is always trying to "invest your money profitably and in a familiar environment".

The red of the Sparkasse logo is right, as is the typography, and the language is the same as all corporate communications.

The offer of a worthwhile entry into cryptocurrencies could be taken seriously if the sender of the phishing email hadn't made a few rookie mistakes.

The addressee is addressed in the subject line with his newspaper abbreviation "cs", there is a conspicuous spelling mistake and the profit promises "from 12.4 to 21.6 percent" sound strangely accurate as well as inaccurate.

Sparkasse Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen: "Do a lot against phishing mails"

It is by no means the first false "Sparkassen" email that he has received and passed on to Sparkasse Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen to combat the annoyance.

When asked why nothing seems to have changed, Sparkasse spokesman Willi Streicher said that although these fraudulent emails were annoying, the allegations were rejected.

One cannot go into more detail about the protective measures in order not to endanger them, but one does a lot to keep the systems safe and to put a stop to the fraudsters.

Cases of damage from phishing emails “extremely low”

Are there many phishing cases on site?

Streicher doesn't give any numbers.

But in general, because of the protective and intensive educational measures, "the cases of damage are extremely small - especially in relation to the total number of electronic bookings".

The Sparkassen-Finanzgruppe has its own department for combating cybercrime.

Like all banks, they also work together with the police and the authorities and are constantly improving the security systems.

Streicher cites the current identification via PushTan app as an example.

In addition, the Sparkasse gives the following advice to all addressees of suspicious bank e-mails:

• Only trust known addresses.

If in doubt, ask.

• No bank asks for secret numbers.

• Update PC and electronic devices regularly.

Use antivirus.

• It often helps to google the first few words of a phishing email.

Most of the time there is an indication of fraud.

• Current fraud warnings are published on www.spktw.de.

• In the event of fraud: the quicker a case is reported, the sooner damage can be averted.

In that case, get the police involved.
