After a period of relative respite, the issue of Israel-Saudi relations is making headlines again, following the exclusive statement of President Yitzhak (Buzi) Herzog, in an interview with the editor-in-chief of Israel Today, Amar Lachmanovich, according to which "Saudis should join the Abrahamic agreement family" , And that the president "will certainly be happy to attend an open meeting in Saudi Arabia in the future."
The president also stated in an interview that "the process of joining depends not only on Israel, but also on the internal processes in Saudi Arabia and on Saudi-US relations."
A Saudi media person who lives in Jeddah tells Israel Today that "without a doubt this is a very important thing for both Israel and Saudi Arabia, if it happens. There is no talk about it in the official media here yet, but in general there is interest in developing ties with Israel."
However, according to Mustafa Abu-Amasha, a journalist and commentator on Middle East affairs, regional and international developments and the internal situation in Saudi Arabia may make it difficult to carry out such a move.
In a conversation with Israel Today, Abu-Amasha says: "I do not see that the people in the kingdom are ready for such a move, there is no maturity for it. Unlike in the UAE, there is public pressure on Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman not to go in this direction."
Following the interview, Saudi network star Muhammad Saud posted a video in which he invited Herzog to stay at his home in Saudi Arabia: "Dear President Herzog, my house is open to you and for the guests - we are waiting for you."
The full interview with the President will be published on the eve of Independence Day
