The number of attacks on firefighters is down 11% in the first quarter of 2022, with around a hundred attacks per month, according to a note from the Ministry of the Interior consulted by AFP on Monday.

During the first quarter of 2022, 302 attacks were declared, i.e. "
a drop of 11% compared to the first quarter of 2021
", is detailed in the note.
Over this period, 130 firefighters declared themselves injured, compared to 122 for the same period in 2021, “
none seriously
”, specifies the document which adds that the number of attacks “
stabilizes around a hundred per month
”.
The level of complaints filed goes back to 55% (against 21%) “
which demonstrates a growing involvement of staff in taking the phenomenon into account
”, according to this document.
The typology of the facts is often the same: 80% of attacks take place during a rescue mission by firefighters and 66% of attackers are the victims themselves.

Alcohol and suspicion of psychiatric disorders are triggering or aggravating elements in 50% of cases

Over the period, 63 attacks on property were also reported (compared to 77 for the same period in 2021), by “
projectile throwing or degradation
”.

The most affected departments are Paris and the inner suburbs, the North, Val-d'Oise, Essonne and the Alpes-Maritimes.
