1.78 meters tall, the dimensions 104-86-104 - this makes Theresa Frömberg from Berglern one of the so-called curvy models.

The 25-year-old takes off in the modeling world.

Berglern

– Posing in front of the camera and presenting the latest fashion: For Theresa Frömberg from Berglern this childhood dream has come true.

1.78 meters tall, the dimensions 104-86-104 - this makes the 25-year-old one of the so-called curvy models, i.e. women with curves far from the typical model clothing sizes.

"I wanted to be a model since I was a child," says Theresa Frömberg.

By the time she was 14, Bravo Girl magazine was required reading.

One day she discovers an ad for a casting.

Theresa travels to Munich with her grandmother Gerlinde – and is included in the file.

She is booked for beauty shoots for the magazine, for photo love stories, "and I was on the cover once," says the 25-year-old.

Curvy model from Berglern - "Your hips are too wide": Agency rejects young Theresa

But she will soon be too old for the jobs at Bravo Girl.

A photographer with whom she has a good relationship recommends an agency in Munich.

At first the young woman is hesitant, also because of her weight.

"But I went there anyway and when I was measured I was told: 'We would take you straight away based on your face, but your hips are too wide.'

At the time, I was a lot thinner than I am today,” recalls Frömberg.

At that time there were hardly any agencies for curvy models.

“So I tried to work my way down with sport.” The young woman quickly saw success, but just as quickly she realized: If she wants to keep this figure, “it will always be hard work.

But I like to eat too much for that and enjoy the food too much, sometimes something unhealthy.

I didn't want to be on a diet for a job."

So Frömberg initially put her dream of modeling on hold.

She does her Abitur at the FOS in Erding and starts a dual course in hotel and tourism management in Munich.

The blonde continues to take photos of herself and uploads them to Instagram.

There she also came across the small agency Linda Models in the Netherlands, which represents models up to size 48 - and she simply wrote to them.

"I had the feeling that it would fit well," says Frömberg in retrospect.

Theresa Frömberg - Agency in Amsterdam: "One that takes me as I am"

Again it is Omi Gerlinde who accompanied her granddaughter to Amsterdam five years ago.

And indeed she is accepted.

"It was great to have an agency that accepts me as I am," says Frömberg and adds: "I have learned that because I am the way I am, there is a place for me in the modeling world there.” Even if the competitive pressure is always high there.

But: "Every body type is in demand, everyone is unique and doesn't have to be compared to anyone."

In summer 2017 she signs the contract.

Instead of working in the hotel during the semester break for her dual studies, she takes a two-week vacation to take part in auditions in London.

With success: Her first job is a photo shoot for the fashion group Mango in Barcelona.

Theresa Frömberg from Berglern: Model jobs for Zalando and Guido Maria Kretschmer

After completing her studies in 2019, she lived in Cologne for a while before moving back to her parents in Berglern in 2020.

Her mum and dad always support her in all her decisions.

Other jobs followed, including for the online mail order company Zalando.

For aboutyou.de she is allowed to present the autumn/winter collection 2020/21 by Guido Maria Kretschmer in photos and in online spots.

The star designer is even present at the shoot himself, "and he's just as nice in real life as he comes across on TV," reveals Frömberg with a laugh.

Biggest job for Theresa Frömberg so far: campaign for the C&A summer collection

She recently landed her biggest job to date: a campaign for C&A's summer collection in Gran Canaria.

From the end of May there will be pictures of her in TV commercials and in stores.

"But the biggest dream job I've ever had was an editorial for Cosmopolitan," says Frömberg.

So she was featured in the main photo spread of the magazine.

“I wanted to go there when I was little.

That was a first big milestone for me.” Another dream is to take part in a fashion week.

Strolling down the catwalk once – that would have almost worked in Berlin this year if Corona hadn’t put a spanner in the works.

Because of the pandemic, Frömberg, who grew up with her twin brother Raphael, younger sister Carina and older sister Magdalena, has been going back to university since last year: "I needed structure in my life." In Landshut she studies business administration and says very down-to-earth about her professional future: "I think you should always have a second source of income, because you never know what's coming."

At the moment she's just enjoying that she can model.

"It's fun, you meet inspiring people, have great conversations and gain a lot of experience." And when time permits, she pursues her hobby of taekwondo, which she has been pursuing for 13 years.

Her siblings Carina and Raphael took over the taekwondo school from parents Alexandra and Carsten Frömberg in Berglern, who in turn run their own school in Essenbach.

The 25-year-old, who will be doing her black belt in the summer, also teaches there.

In the meantime, Frömberg is not only under contract with her mother agency – i.e. the agency that mainly represents her.

She is also in the files of partner agencies in London, Hamburg, Italy, Sweden and even in the USA, where she is not yet allowed to work due to visa regulations.

Theresa Frömberg - In the US, the market for curvy models is much larger

The American market is much larger than in Germany, especially for curvy models.

The most famous plus-size models in the world come from the USA - Ashley Graham or Candice Huffine, for example, and the German Sarina Nowak is also extremely successful there.

The former participant in the TV show Germany's Next Topmodel, at that time still wearing size 34, has long since said goodbye to size zero.

For Frömberg she is a role model, “just as I want to be a role model for young girls myself”.

She thinks it's good that there are more and more "normal" women in the fashion world, not just tall, thin, young ones.

“Diversity” has been the keyword that has been quoted a lot for some time.

"But there is still a long way to go before it is completely accepted that different people are shown in advertising," Frömberg is convinced: "Only when nobody notices that short, fat or people with a different skin color can be seen , then 'diversity' has really arrived in society.”
