Supporters of the right to abortion in the United States reacted angrily to the leak tonight (Tuesday) of the Politico website, according to which the Supreme Court intends to reverse the precedent ruling "Row v. Wade" from 1973 that anchored the right to abortion.

According to Politico, the draft ruling was written by Judge Samuel Alito, and was supported by Conservative Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsch, Brett Cuano and Amy Connie Barrett.

Nancy Pelosi, chairwoman of the House of Representatives, said: "If the report is accurate, the Supreme Court is expected to enact the largest restriction on human rights in fifty years - not just on women but on all Americans.

"The ruling of the Republican-appointed judges will be remembered forever as one of the worst and most damaging decisions in modern history.

"

Elizabeth Warren, a Massachusetts state senator and former candidate in the Democratic primary ahead of the 2020 presidential election, said an extremist court is likely to "enforce its extreme and unpopular right-wing views on the entire state."

She said, "It is time for the millions who support the constitution and the right to abortion to stand up and make their voices heard. We will never step back - ever," she added.

Republican senators including Suzanne Collins of Maine and Lisa Morkowski of Alaska, who over time expressed concern about the right to abortion, were quick to respond to a report in Politico.

But among progressive legislators, resentment was immense.

Alexandria Oxio Cortez, a congressman from New York, called for Senate reform and the removal of Thomas, the veteran conservative judge, because of his wife's political activities regarding the January 6, 2021, Capitol Hill assault.

"It's not just about abortion - the court also intends to violate the right to privacy, which also includes same-sex marriage and human rights," she said.

She also criticized President Joe Biden for not using a presidential decree.

"People have chosen the Democrats so that we can lead in dangerous times like the situation today - so that we can deal with corruption and the president will use his legal authority to resolve disputes in Congress on issues like student debt, climate change and so on. If not, what message are we sending? "A finger to blame and to cry when the future of people and their equality is in danger. It is time to be decisive, to lead with confidence, to fight for a prosperous future for all and to protect the weak."
