The late Itai Saban, who served in the 51st Golani Battalion, passed away about two years ago • Since then, his mother and his girlfriend commemorate him in every way possible:

For seven years now, the "

Recipe with Memory

" project has been operating and bringing to the general public hundreds of different and delicious recipes that came from bereaved families of IDF martyrs, in a way that unconventionally commemorates them. L., who served in the Golani 51st Battalion and who died about two years ago after collapsing at a friend's birthday party where he spent time with his friends.

Adi, Itai's mother, told "Israel Today" that her son was "a child full of light and joy, cute and funny, who was very close to the family. Only after he died did I realize how much he knew how to devour life. He liked to meet his friends from home and friends from the army He used to make the house bustle with people - but since he left the house has become very quiet. "

Adi also said that Amit, her son's friend, was the one who chose the recipe for the project, because on his 18th birthday, which took place a few months before his death, Adi, one of Amit's friends, prepared the cake for me.

A colleague says that he tasted the cake at the same company a few weeks earlier and was very enthusiastic about it.

He asked a colleague to contact Adi to make the cake for his birthday, and when it arrived - she handed it to him.

But with me, how to be gentle, did not like the end result.

"I served him the cake on the eve of his birthday when he was sitting with friends, and he said it was disgusting," Amit recounts as laughter rolls from her.

"He really appreciated us for the effort. All his friends ate it and said it was great and my family also ate from the cake and got excited about it! He really liked chocolate, so when we transferred this recipe to the project we passed it in an upgraded and much better version."

"It's important to me to commemorate him in special ways, that's the least I can do for him."

"Recipes with meaning"

The hard loss left a hole in the hearts of Itai's entire family, which led Adi to define it as "the most violent event that can happen to the soul."

Despite the time that has passed since he left, the connection between Amit and Itai's family has not weakened, on the contrary - she even says that she has won another family.

"With me he kept telling me that he had a perfect family, and he was right - I won them," she said.

Adi herself says similar things: "We are in a very good relationship, she is a lovely girl and I am very happy that I had enough time with him to have such great love."

The two agree that with me he would very much like the commemoration around him.

"It's very difficult for us to deal with other things, we are missing a piece from the heart," says Adi.

"It is important to me that they hear about him and know what a cute, beloved and talented child he was - I do not want him to be forgotten. We will commemorate him in other ways that will suit his spirit, as in 'Recipe with Memory'."

Amit says that Itai's commemoration is part of her personal struggle with the great pain and loss.

"It's important to me to commemorate him in special ways, that's the least I can do for him. Every commemoration, small and large alike, makes me feel good that I're doing something for him, for us. In general, 'Recipe with Memory' is not just a project - these are not random recipes you found. "On the Internet, but recipes with meaning, behind which there is a story. It is enough for me to know that one person will make this cake and get to know me even a little, and I made mine."

The recipe for the crepe cake that the late Saban loved with me

Ingredients

for crepes:

  • 2 cups flour

  • 2 milk jugs

  • 1 vanilla sugar

  • 2 tablespoons of sugar

  • 3 teaspoons oil

  • 4-3 eggs depending on size

For a cream that will build the layers with the crepes:

  • 1 sweet cream

  • 1 instant vanilla pudding

  • 1 cup milk

  • Vanilla puree (optional)

For chocolate ganache:

  • 1/2 container sweet cream

  • 1 pack of milk chocolate

Instructions:

  • Place the flour and sugars in a bowl, add the eggs, milk, and oil and with the help of a whisk, beat well until the batter is smooth and without lumps.

  • Heat a frying pan and grease it, meanwhile pour the batter into a squeeze bottle (it is also possible with a ladle, a matter of convenience).

  • Make crepes just like you make pancakes - the batter should be thin.

If it looks too thick for you - add milk as needed.

Pour some of the batter in the center of the pan and "drive" it so that a circle is formed that spreads over the entire pan!

Turn after 2-1 minutes, and we have a crepe.

  • Wait for the pile of crepes to cool and meanwhile prepare the ganache to cool enough - in a bowl suitable for the microwave, put the chocolate and cream and melt in the microwave for 30 seconds each time and take out to mix, so that the chocolate does not burn.

    Set aside to cool.

  • Prepare the cream: In the mixer bowl, pour the sweet cream together with the milk, pudding and vanilla puree.

Whip on medium heat until a firm cream is formed.

  • Make sure the crepes have cooled and you can start assembling - just as it sounds, layer cake, place on a tray a little cream to stick the first crepe to the bottom, place the crepe and start - layer of crepe, layer of cream, layer of crepe, layer of cream and so on.

Between the layers you can decorate with various chocolates and with the ganache (greatly improves the cake).

  • When we have finished and reached the last crepe - place it and pour the rest of the chocolate ganache over it.

You can of course decorate as you wish.

  • The "Recipe with Memory" project makes it possible to get to know the life story of the victims of the Israeli military and the victims of terrorist acts through their favorite recipes, those who especially liked to prepare or those who liked to eat.

During Memorial Day we will share here in the section five different stories.

For the rest of the victims' recipes and stories - the "Recipe with Memory" website.
