In November 2019, the police blocked the Polytechnic University, and a large number of demonstrators gathered in the area of Tsim Sha Tsui, trying to rescue the PolyU protesters, and clashes broke out with the police.

Three men and women were earlier convicted of participating in the "siege Wei to save Zhao" operation at that time, and were convicted of rioting. The case was sentenced in the District Court today (3rd).

Regarding the defense's plea for pleading, the society has returned to calm, and the sentence is not so severe. Judge Lin Weiquan disagreed, emphasizing that riots should not be tolerated at any time, and the sentence must be deterrent enough to be head-on.

Lin eventually sentenced the graphic designer involved in the case to 35 months in prison and sent the two younger defendants to a training center.

Three defendants: Wu Zhenfeng (18 years old), Luo Zhicheng (19 years old, female) and Liang Qiongsheng (25 years old), were charged with one count of rioting.

The charge alleges that on November 19, 2019, three persons were found at Chatham Road South, Observatory Road, Kimberley Road, Kimberley Street, Granville Road, Carnarvon Road, Cameron Road and Hau Fook Street in Kowloon. Participated in riots in the vicinity.

The court revealed that the first defendant was a first-year student of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Nursing and Burial Course, the second defendant was studying psychology at Lingnan University, and the third defendant was a graphic designer.

Officials say the riots were widespread and lasted for hours

When sentencing, Lin Guan pointed out that although this case was not the most serious type of riot, it was not minor either.

The riots involved were wide-ranging and lasted for several hours, with a large number of participants.

During the period, some demonstrators threw incendiary bombs, some of which fell near the police officers, but fortunately no one was injured.

The judge said the demonstrators were clearly prepared.

Although there is no evidence to show that the three defendants in this case had committed violent acts, the judge pointed out that they knew that others were committing violent acts and did not stop them, so they agreed and accepted the violent acts.

Among the three defendants, the second defendant had gas masks, multiple masks, and physiological saline at the time, and his equipment was more than that of the other two defendants.

Riots can't be condoned at any time

When the defense pleaded for mercy, it said that now the society has returned to calm, and the sentence should not be so severe. The judge frankly disagreed with this view, emphasizing that riots should not be tolerated at any time, and that those who agree should not be sentenced too lightly.

The court sentence must be deterrent enough, and it will be head-on.

After consideration, the judge sentenced the third defendant to 35 months in prison and sentenced the first defendant to a training center.
