Police arrested four Lod residents this evening (Tuesday) on suspicion of firing fireworks during the Memorial Day siren for the victims of the Israeli military and hostilities.

Four were also charged with assaulting police officers - while they carried out enforcement actions following the firing of the fireworks.

The incident took place at 20:00, when the siren of memory was heard in Lod, as well as in other parts of the country.

Security camera footage in the city shows the fireworks being fired from between the houses.

Lod police officers and border guards who went on an enforcement operation, with an emphasis on weapons offenses, noticed what was happening.

According to the police, when the police entered the area, they encountered violent resistance from the residents, including assaulting police officers.

Upon the arrest of the four, police officers also located the remains of pyrotechnic devices.

The police stated that the arrest was part of a "focused activity derived from the offensive strategy that the Central District conducts against perpetrators of crime until the full severity of the law with them is exhausted."

Tomorrow, in accordance with the needs of the investigation, the police will examine bringing the suspects to a hearing to extend their detention.
