[East Rail/SCL] The cross-sea section of the MTR East Rail Line was originally scheduled to open to traffic from June to July this year. The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Chen Fan, and MTR Corporation Chief Executive Officer Jin Zepei met with reporters today (April 3).

Chen Fan announced that the cross-sea section will be opened to traffic on the 15th of this month, making it the fourth cross-sea railway in Hong Kong.

Jin Zepei pointed out that after the opening of the sea section, only one station was added, and the combined fares of other stations did not change.

For example, he pointed out that passengers departing from Mong Kok East in the future will be more connected, and the journey across the sea will be faster, but the fare from Mong Kok East to Admiralty has not been increased, which is the same as the current fare table.

NWFB and Citybus stated that after the opening of the East Rail Crossing section, the cross-harbour bus route 301 running through the CHT in the morning will be suspended.

Another 5 bus lines will provide MTR interchange discounts, including 722, 780, 788, 1M and 25A.

[15:30] MTR Hong Kong Passenger Services Director Yang Meizhen, Train Operations and Local Railway Director Huang Kunwei presided over the press conference.

Yang Meizhen pointed out that the cross-sea section has completed drills and trial operations in the past, and more than 100 simulated drills have been completed, and will continue to be tested and drilled.

The MTR passenger team is ready.

Admiralty Station will be a super interchange station for Line 4. When the sea crossing section opens to traffic, the extension of the station and the new exit on Lok Lai Street will be opened simultaneously.

As for the existing East Rail platform at Hung Hom Station, the new platform will be used instead. Passengers on the Tuen Ma Line only need to get on and off the first floor to transfer across the sea.

The journey time for East Rail passengers to cross the sea will be greatly reduced, and it will only take 40 minutes from Sheung Shui to Admiralty, 15 minutes less than the current time.

As for Tai Wai to Admiralty, now you have to change trains at Kowloon Tong, and it will only take 17 minutes after opening, which is 11 minutes faster.

[15:25] NWFB and Citybus stated that after the opening of the East Rail Crossing section, the cross-harbour bus line 301 running through the CHT in the morning will be suspended.

Another 5 bus lines will provide MTR interchange discounts, including 722, 780, 788, 1M and 25A.

[14:25] Regarding the final cost of the project, Chen Fan said that the total amount undertaken by the government in the Sha-Central Line project has not changed recently.

[14:12] In terms of rush hour arrangements, Chen Fan said that he would take the MTR when he was off work in Kowloon. Although there were many people on the platform, there would be "lucky trains" after every two or three trains. I believe that the MTR would mobilize the trains to facilitate the Citizens travel.

As for through trains, due to the wide coverage of high-speed rail and intensive development, the Hong Kong government, the MTR and their counterparts in the Mainland are reviewing and will announce in due course.

In terms of fares, due to the historical factors of the East Rail, there are cross-border journeys on the same railway line, and the fares for cross-border sections are higher, which can subsidize local sections.

Both the MTR and the Hong Kong government understand the historical background. In response to the issue of "shorter, more expensive, and longer flat" fares, the MTR will provide flexibility in adjusting fares to narrow down the problems.

Jin Zepei added that with the opening of the sea section, a new train station will be added, and other fares will remain unchanged.

In the future, citizens starting from Mong Kok East will be more connected in all directions, and the journey across the sea will be faster, but the fare has not been increased.

[14:09] Chen Fan said that after the opening of the Tuen Ma Line, as many as 30% of the southbound passengers will be diverted. It is believed that the East Railway will meet the travel needs of citizens after crossing the sea.

When asked how to evaluate the performance of the Hong Kong government in supervising the SCL project, Chen pointed out that in the face of severe epidemics and great challenges, the people-oriented approach was successfully completed in advance.

As for the past engineering problems, Chen pointed out that "the past will not be forgotten, and the future will be a teacher". The authorities will learn from them, and many improvement measures are being followed up.

[14:06] Jin Zepei pointed out that after the East Rail has been extended across the sea, there are a total of 16 stations, and the Crescent Store is also used at Admiralty Station and Hung Hom Station.

The Convention and Exhibition Station is adjacent to the Convention and Exhibition Center and is also located in the business district, while the Admiralty Station will become a four-in-one super interchange station.

Kim also pointed out that the MTR has overcome many challenges during the construction process, and is excited about the cross-sea section of the East Rail Link connecting the north and south of Hong Kong.

[14:00] Chen Fan announced that the cross-sea section will be opened to traffic on the 15th of this month, becoming the fourth cross-sea railway in Hong Kong, and the newly built exhibition station and the extension of Admiralty Station will be opened on the same day.

After the opening to traffic, citizens do not need to change trains to travel between the Northeast New Territories and Hong Kong Island. The travel time from Hung Hom to Admiralty has been reduced from 19 minutes to 7 minutes. The entire East Rail Line runs through the Northeast New Territories, Kowloon Central and Hong Kong Island.

Citizens can interchange with other MTR railway lines at Tai Wai, Kowloon Tong, Admiralty and Hung Hom.

Admiralty has become a super interchange station for East Rail, Tsuen Wan Line, Hong Kong Island and South Hong Kong Island Line 4.

After the East Rail Line is extended across the sea, the whole line will be extended to about 46 kilometers, with 16 stations in total, including 4 interchange stations, including Tai Wai, Kowloon Tong, Hung Hom and Admiralty stations, which can be connected to 5 existing MTR lines Railway lines, namely Tuen Ma Line, Kwun Tong Line, Hong Kong Island Line, Tsuen Wan Line and South Island Line.

In the sea-crossing section of the East Rail Line, the Exhibition Station is a new station.

The MTR pointed out earlier that in the future, the journey from Hung Hom to the HKCEC will only take about 5 minutes, and the journey from Hung Hom to Admiralty will take about 7 minutes, which is obviously faster than taking the cross-harbour tunnel bus at the CHT.

Passengers do not need to get off the train at Hung Hom Station and can directly cross the sea.

It takes about 3 minutes from Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Station to Admiralty Station, or about 10 minutes from Kowloon Tong to Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Station.
