Schongau – It should be a festival for peace.

With a happy atmosphere, rousing live music and good food from regional providers.

And that is exactly what has been achieved.

Although the Myr Festival (Myr = peace in Ukrainian) had to be moved from the old town to the Schongau ice rink at short notice due to the bad weather forecast, more than 1,000 people found their way down to Lechuferstrasse.

They enjoyed the music, ate, drank - and donated.

The event area in the ice rink was already full when the festival started around 3 p.m.

First of all with families and many young people.

The three musicians from "Lumberjohnny" created a good atmosphere with their cheeky mix of different Irish folk currents.

Meanwhile, the first donations were generated at the stands in the arena.

Because just by consuming, the visitors could do good.

Great willingness to donate at the Myr Festival in Schongau

Because the organizer, the Böbing Open Air (BOA) association, was provided with all food and drinks from Schongau retailers at the purchase price or even completely free of charge, and the teams from various associations and restaurateurs also served or handed them out free of charge, at least half of each purchase went the sum directly into the large donation pot.

The butchers Filser and Boneberger with burgers (also vegetarian and vegan) and grilled meat were there, as well as the Turkish parents' association Schongau with a huge selection of filled dumplings as well as tea and mocha.

The traditional costume association and some volunteers served the drinks from the Chiemsee brewery and kitchen & cellar, the curry sausages came from the V-Markt Schongau, and the Enzensperger bakery delivered all the pastries.

The JuZe Schongau team made their rounds again and again through the people and offered self-designed buttons with peace motifs for a donation.

And in advance, the young people, together with their motivated supervisors Christina Annibalini and Sebastian Kosler, had made a large donation bin, which - just like on Friday before at the big fashion show in the old town - now stood in the middle of the crowd and invited people to donate money.

“Die Plomaten” stormed the stage as the second band of the day.

The five buddies from Schongau and the surrounding area can rap and rock in equal measure, which was particularly well received by the young audience.

A short speech followed by Mayor Falk Sluyterman, who once again focused on the unfortunately sad occasion of the day.

Because it is the victims of the Ukraine war who will benefit from the proceeds of the benefit event.

And Schongau's twin town of Gogolin in Poland, which is currently caring for a large number of refugees, is also to be supported.

Sluyterman campaigned for peace in Europe and in the world and was proud of the well-attended and successful event.

emotional moment

Pianist Olga Tereshchuk managed an emotional stage moment.

The Ukrainian currently lives in Hohenfurch and devotedly played a few classical pieces on an electric piano from the Pfaffenwinkel music school.

Before that, the musician had not played an instrument for many weeks and was accordingly touched when she was offered the opportunity to play.

The event really got going with “The Stevers”, whose singer Carolin Nuscheler was also the initiator of the festival.

She organized the peace event together with Frank Hoffmann (BOA) and the city of Schongau (patron).

As a front woman, she really fired up the visitors, the group convinced with energetic rock and blues rock.

Before "Mr.

Mojoe" finally took over and kept the audience in front of the stage and on the dance floor for another hour and a half with rock and funk.

David Kammerer from Pro Pa from Hohenfurch provided the best possible sound in the ice rink.

Volunteers and, without further ado, even some festival visitors offered to help with the set-up and dismantling.

In no time at all, everything was put back together around midnight - and the organizers were left speechless.

"Nobody could have counted on this cohesion and this willingness," sums up Carolin Nuscheler.

Everyone involved and even bystanders who helped with the dismantling during the night would have contributed to the success with a lot of enthusiasm, nice ideas and a lot of positive energy.

Last but not least, the city administration and the district office had joined forces on Thursday to get the necessary permits for the transfer to the ice rink.

"There you see again: if everyone helps together,

collection starts

The final donation amount will be announced as soon as possible.

The money goes to "Aktion Deutschland Hilft", an alliance of various aid organizations, including Johanniter and Malteser.

The collection of aid supplies belonging to the festival also starts today, Wednesday.

On the afternoons of May 4th, 5th and 6th, from 2 to 4.30 p.m., donations in kind will be accepted at the Schongau building yard, which will be transported to the Ukrainian refugees in Gogolin.

Only the following goods will be accepted: Detergent, fabric softener, shampoo, shower gel, toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap, face, hand and body cream, cleaning products of all kinds, hygiene items for women, diapers, wet wipes, first-aid kits/first-aid material, car first-aid kits (also after expiration).
