The president of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador presented this Thursday a constitutional reform project on the electoral issue.
"This is a huge reform," says Pamela San Martín, former counselor of the National Electoral Institute, in an interview with Carmen Aristegui.
The initiative proposes to replace the National Electoral Institute with the National Electoral and Consultation Institute;
eliminate public financing for parties and keep it only for electoral campaigns;
as well as the election of electoral councilors and magistrates by popular vote, among other measures.
