Joe Biden asked the US Congress on Tuesday to "quickly" release a huge budget extension to continue delivering military aid to Ukraine that allows him to "ridiculously ridicule" the Russian army, by visiting a production site of Javelin missile launchers.
“We need more money to ensure that the United States can continue to send weapons” and to provide “humanitarian aid” to Ukraine, said the American president from Troy (Alabama, south) , where he was received in a factory of the Lockheed Martin group.
“I ask Congress to quickly vote this funding,” said Joe Biden, who asked American parliamentarians for a colossal budget extension of 33 billion dollars.
“These weapons that your hands have touched are in the hands of Ukrainian heroes and make a difference.
It's something you can and should be proud of every day,” he said, thanking the assembled staff for their speech.
5,000 Javelins shipped to Ukraine by Washington
"You allow the Ukrainians to defend themselves and, to put it bluntly, they ridicule the Russian military on many occasions," the US president said.
The Javelin is an anti-tank weapon, worn on the shoulder, which has become a symbol of Ukrainian resistance as well as Western aid, and in particular American aid.
According to the White House, the United States has already shipped 5,000 to Ukraine, and other Western countries 500. The world's leading power now faces a double challenge: to maintain the extremely sustained pace of its deliveries of armament to Ukraine, while ensuring that its own arsenal remains sufficiently well stocked.
