Duke: Otoniel's capture marks the end of the Gulf Clan 1:54
(CNN Spanish) -
Colombian authorities handed over to the DEA the leader of the Gulf Clan Darío Antonio Úsuga, alias "Otoniel", a source from the Colombian National Police told CNN. "Otoniel" is wanted in the United States for charges of drug trafficking.
Alias “Otoniel” will be extradited to the US, says the Colombian Ministry of Defense
He was captured on October 23, 2021 in the municipality of Necoclí, in the department of Antioquia, and is designated by the Colombian Police and by President Iván Duque as one of the most dangerous drug traffickers in the country.
At the time of his arrest, against Úsuga there were at least 122 arrest warrants for charges of drug trafficking, conspiracy to commit a crime, murder and money laundering, according to the file of the Colombian Attorney General's Office.
From the moment of his arrest, Úsuga has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
However, the judge of guarantees endorsed at the time the request of the Prosecutor's Office to keep him behind bars.
The extradition takes place after the Council of State revoked the suspension issued last week after an appeal filed by several victims.
