After decades: Weilheim's traditional restaurant closes - "One of the last Bavarian inns"

Where else there are beer benches, it looks empty: The "Allgäuer Hof" at Weilheim's Marienplatz has closed.

A traditional Weilheim restaurant closes on the sly.

There is little information about the surprising end at the weekend.

Weilheim - Last year there was a rumor that the "Allgäuer Hof" at Marienplatz wanted to close.

The alleged news also reached the local newspaper, which dutifully followed up the matter, called the economy - and found out that there was nothing to it, even if the Corona period is not easy.

However, when a colleague wanted to eat there on Saturday evening, the kitchen was cold: the day before there had been a small internal farewell party, the draft beer was already gone, the existing guests were given bottled beer – no one was let in anymore.

The fact that the traditional restaurant is actually closed can only be seen from the unusually empty square in front of the inn, where people who usually shape the cityscape at blue beer garden tables exude a little Bavarian beer garden flair.

There is no information sign, and landlord Franz Matulla did not want to provide official information on request.

He ran the "traditional Bavarian restaurant", which has been owned by the family along with the building since 1960, as can be read on the website, which also does not mention the closure.

According to reports, the house was sold, the new owner is striving to continue the gastronomic concept.

Officially, it was not possible to find out who exactly should run the restaurant and when the Allgäuer Hof could open again.

Florian Lipp, chairman of the local development association, was also surprised by the news when he was informed of the closure by the local newspaper.

"It's very sad because it was one of the last Bavarian inns that we still had."
