Before the eyes of numerous passers-by, a man attacked a 35-year-old woman in the center of the small town of Burgdorf.
The next day it turns out: the alleged murderer was the husband.
Burgdorf - After the fatal knife attack on a 35-year-old woman in Burgdorf, an arrest warrant was issued against the woman's husband for treacherous murder.
The accused has not yet commented on his motive and the background to the crime, said the spokeswoman for the Hildesheim public prosecutor, Christina Wotschke, the dpa.
On Tuesday afternoon, the 37-year-old attacked the woman on the street and inflicted several stab wounds on her.
"The events were observed by a large number of witnesses who tried to intervene," said Wotschke.
The man then let go of the woman, fled and turned himself in to the police in Burgdorf a little later.
The witnesses administered first aid.
The 35-year-old died at the scene of the crime near the small town's shopping area, despite attempts to resuscitate the rescue workers who had been alerted.
A day later, people lit candles and laid flowers at the scene of the crime.
The birds are chirping, the sun is shining.
Pedestrians walk by, some stop.
"She was such a loving person.
She was so positive," said one woman of the deceased.

The woman who was killed and her husband came from the Celle district.
The spokeswoman for the public prosecutor's office could not initially say whether they were still living together or whether the woman wanted to separate from the man.
Investigators are now looking for more witnesses who can provide information about what happened before and after the deadly attack.
According to dpa information, the woman had a private appointment in Burgdorf.
According to the authorities, the murder weapon - a knife - was secured, as was a car parked near the crime scene, which was allegedly driven by the woman.

An elderly woman who witnessed Tuesday's attack returned to the scene of the crime on Wednesday.
According to her own statements, she observed the attack from the other side of the street.
At first she thought the woman had fallen and the man wanted to help her, reports the senior citizen.
But then she saw the man swinging a long-bladed knife several times and stabbing the woman.
