China today called on the United States to fulfill its financial obligations to the United Nations.
The Chinese Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dai Bing, said today during a session of the United Nations General Assembly: The largest shareholder has not well fulfilled its financial obligations to the United Nations over the years, and this is unfair to other countries, in an implicit reference to the United States, which is the largest contributor Mali in the organization by 22 percent.
The Chinese official pointed out that reform initiatives aimed at improving the financial situation of the United Nations should be in strict accordance with the spirit of the UN Charter, abide by the principle guiding member states, enhance fiscal discipline and improve the overall performance of the budget.
Dai noted that China, which is the largest developing country, faces its own challenges, such as fighting the coronavirus, developing its economy and improving people's livelihood, but it is still working to meet its financial commitments, as it recently contributed more than $200 million to the United Nations.
