Just in time for the state's anniversary, there was once again a fight between the people of Württemberg and Baden.

The latter complained that they were not invited to a conference.

Now there was a big celebration and smirking in the state parliament.

Stuttgart - Comedian Bülent Ceylan (46) says abroad when asked where he comes from: "From Monnem." The Mannheimer with a German mother and Turkish father was the star guest on Wednesday evening at the celebration in the state parliament for the 70th birthday of the state of Baden- Wuerttemberg.

Nor would he say that he came from Baden-Württemberg.

"I'm from the Palatinate," said Ceylan at a panel discussion in front of 400 invited guests in Stuttgart.

This regional pride is precisely what is beautiful.

"It doesn't give a shit to me where you come from.

The main thing is to behave well.”

However, Ceylan has a somewhat divided relationship with his hometown.

When he wanted to lure his wife from North Rhine-Westphalia, who by the way speaks "Oxford-German", to Mannheim, he first took her to tranquil, neighboring Heidelberg.

When she then asked him that it wasn't Mannheim after all, he said: "Heidelberg is a district of Mannheim." In the industrial city of Mannheim you have to know "where you are going".

But he doesn't want to move to Heidelberg either, because living there is too expensive.

"I'm Swabian," joked Ceylan.

Earlier, the President of the State Parliament, Muhterem Aras, said in her welcome that the founding of the south-western state in April 1952 was the "beginning of a remarkable success story".

The country is “united in diversity”.

"We owe a lot to the diversity of people and cultures," said the Green politician.

She hopes that the merger of Baden and Württemberg will one day become a model for the United States of Europe with the diversity of the regions.

Recently, however, there had been trouble because the Baden side was not invited to a panel discussion on the anniversary.

Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) recently declared that in the 70th year of the state's existence there were no longer any people from Baden.

"Today there are only people from Baden-Württemberg," said the 73-year-old, whose parents once came from East Prussia and who now lives in Sigmaringen.

Bülent Ceylan said it was no wonder given Kretschmann's dialect that many people would think when he said: "Oh, aren't we Württembergers?" Kretschmann had to emphasize the word "Baden" better.
