This morning (Wednesday), a ceremony was held at the National Memorial Hall on Mount Herzl to read the names of the victims of the Israeli military operations in the presence of Defense Minister Bnei Gantz.
IDF soldiers and representatives of other security bodies called out the names of the 24,068 casualties.
"The enormous price paid by the bereaved families and the whole of Israeli society is also our engine to continue to live, to do good, to repair - to come together, to preserve the evils and mutual guarantee," the defense minister said as he opened the call for IDF casualties. Ours as a society.
Memory and bereavement are issues that are at the heart of the Israeli experience, and we must keep them on guard and above all debate.
"Israeli society deserves one issue that we all treat with reverence throughout the year, and deserves this day when we will remember everyone, honor their memory, and preserve our unity and social resilience."
The defense minister added: "The first to take responsibility for this is us - the leaders of the public, who should put aside their differences and simply embrace and remember the fallen and their legacy. Bereaved families deserve it, and we must embrace them in whatever way they choose, and accept their criticism with love. "Because they are the ones who paid the price for our resurrection and existence. We will embrace them in our hearts, and in this way we will preserve Israeli society, heritage, memory and unity."
