This 68-year-old retiree has lived for twenty years in a modest family home with cracked white walls in Demydiv.

This village of 4,000 inhabitants between the Irpin River and the "kyiv Sea", a huge artificial reservoir on the Dnieper, was on the route of the Russians in their attempt, on February 24, to take kyiv, about fifty kilometers South.

On the night of February 25 to 26, the Russian army was already at the gates of the village, when the Ukrainian soldiers blew up the dam between the river and the reservoir, cutting off the only road that made it possible to reach the capital.
