The Hungarian government admitted today that it has no guarantees for its energy security in the European project to embargo Russian oil.
"We do not see any plan or guarantees for how to manage the transition from using Russian oil to not using the current proposals and what will ensure energy security in Hungary," the government's media office said in a statement sent to AFP.
Hungary has so far ruled out supporting any import ban. Prime Minister Viktor Orban referred to his country's dependence on Russian gas and oil, while Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto reiterated yesterday that it is impossible at the present time to run Hungary or its economy without Russian oil.
Sixty-five percent of Hungary's oil and 85 percent of gas supplies come from Russia, according to government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs.
