JD Vance wins Republican Senate primary in Ohio after receiving Trump's endorsement

Governor Mike DeWine secured the Republican nomination on Tuesday in his bid for re-election, showing that the former president's influence remains.

Supported by former President Donald Trump, JD Vance won the Republican primary for the Senate in Ohio on Tuesday, so he will face Democratic Representative Tim Ryan in November, according to NBC News.

In the gubernatorial race, incumbent Governor Mike DeWine secured his nomination for re-election, according to NBC News projections, while former Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley won the Democratic nomination.

Vance had already sparked controversy for a video of his campaign in which he asked: "Do you hate Mexicans?"

He also made waves with his book

Hillbilly Elegy,

which came out in the middle of a five-candidate primary election that spent more than $70 million on the campaign trail.
