The fifth wave of the epidemic has eased. Members of the Legislative Council of the Federation of Trade Unions, Huang Guo and Liang Ziying, said that they learned that the government will suspend operation of 6 makeshift hospitals in Hong Kong next Thursday (May 12), and it is expected that there will be 5,400 employees by then. If you are fired, please urge the government to make proper arrangements, otherwise there may be a huge unemployment event.
Urge the government to properly handle the arrangement of temporary positions
Liang Ziying pointed out that all makeshift hospitals in Hong Kong will now go into a "dormant state" and will end their operation on the 12th of this month. At present, 5,400 employees in six makeshift hospitals are expected to be fired, including security guards and cleaners.
He described it as "probably the first time in Hong Kong's history that a very large number of employees were fired on the same day."
He urged the government to make proper arrangements to avoid laying off these employees on the same day, such as arranging some temporary positions, arranging the departure of these employees in batches, arranging some facilities for quarantine purposes of foreign domestic helpers, etc.
He said that he had contacted the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Ho Kai-ming, who also belongs to the trade union, but has not received a positive response from the government.
