Lionel Messi will not be the best player in French football 0:56
(CNN) --
Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi has not made the shortlist for the Ligue 1 best player award after a disappointing first season in France.
The omission is not a surprise, as Messi scored four goals in 23 league games following his departure from Barcelona last year.
Messi's PSG teammate Kylian Mbappé, Ligue 1's top scorer with 24 goals so far this season, Rennes's Martin Terrier, AS's Wissam Ben Yedder, are nominated for the player of the year award. Monaco, Dimitri Payet, from Marseille, and Lucas Paqueta, from Lyon.

Messi signed a two-year deal with PSG ahead of the 2021/22 season, ending his association of more than 20 years with Barcelona.
During his time at the club, he won 10 league titles and was named player of the year nine times.
In this season's Champions League, Messi scored five goals in seven games, although PSG's season ended in the round of 16 with a loss to Real Madrid.
The award for the best player of the season, which has been in the hands of Mbappé on the last two occasions, is scheduled to be announced on May 15.
