Within the municipal horticultural center located in Ain, the ecological town hall of Lyon presented this Tuesday morning its plan devoted to nature in the city.
With a budget of 141 million euros
(four times more than during the previous mandate)
over the period 2020-2026, this system aims to "restore more proximity between nature and the inhabitants", declared Grégory Doucet, the mayor of Lyons.
“The WHO recommends living with at least 10 m2 of green space near your home.
In Lyon, we are more around 5 m2 per inhabitant.
The objective of the return of nature to the city is twofold: it allows adaptation to global warming, but also to preserve biodiversity”, he confided.
Nine orchards per year and per district
In all, 152 “nature” playgrounds will be created and the town hall aims to plant nine orchards per year and per district and to support the street gardens that are deployed “in urban interstices”.
3000 street gardens, representing 12 km of roads are already present in the city and 10,000 trees should be planted by 2026. The possible pedestrianization of the heart of Lyon in the coming years should also be an opportunity for the municipality to reinvest the public space in this very “mineral” zone.

It remains to convince the architects of the Buildings of France in this area classified as World Heritage by UNESCO.
"But the dialogue is more and more understanding with them on this subject of the compatibility between revegetation and enhancement of heritage", assures Nicolas Husson, deputy delegate for nature in the city.
A project for a Lyon rose climbing on the walls of buildings in Old Lyon is even in the works.
