The concrete foundations have long been in place, now everyone is waiting for the wood for the further construction of the elementary school in Wessling.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, the carpet issue is being raised again.

A perennial favorite.

Weßling

– The construction of the new primary school in Weßling is progressing rapidly.

So quickly that the parents' association is getting nervous.

After the municipal council has already rejected a carpet four times, their concern is the soundproofing, which the advisory board believes is not sufficiently taken into account.

It is said that this shakes the entire pedagogical concept associated with the learning house.

Project manager Florian Zarbo and Mayor Michael Sturm disagree and refer to soundproofing reports.

Alexandra Beier is the mother of two sons.

Although her offspring will no longer move into the premises of the 20-million-euro building, the chairwoman of the parents' council is still busy with the implementation of the building project.

In the most recent municipal council meeting, she addressed the public question hour to the committee with a request to think about certain topics again.

In an interview with Starnberger Merkur, Beier expressed his concern about the decision of the municipal councils against a carpet on the first floor.

"The carpet is an important part of the learning house concept," she emphasizes, fearing that this special pedagogy would otherwise be endangered.

The reason: "The carpet absorbs the sound, the parquet floor amplifies it."

The idea of the learning house is “inter-class teaching,” explains Beier.

"The classrooms are connected to an extended learning space, which the students use as a retreat or where they work on certain projects," she says, adding: "If you teach 28 children in frontal teaching, there is less noise than with the pedagogical concept in the learning house .” She doesn't blame the municipal councils, she assures her.

"But we urgently need to talk about it again" - and possibly also with a noise protection expert who specializes in learning houses, whom she is currently contacting.

But the carpet issue seems to have gone through.

"You can acoustically equip rooms with any floor covering, but with hard floor coverings, the acoustic measures on walls and ceilings have to be reinforced,"

Florian Zarbo has been project manager for a good year.

The board of directors of the Wesslingen municipal company KUGW refers to an "expensive noise protection report with experts" and emphasizes: "The topic of noise protection is right at the top of our agenda, we have developed a special noise protection device." received "a go" in terms of soundproofing.

"We lowered the ceilings and chose walls and floors in such a way that the best sound insulation is guaranteed." The architect, who specializes in learning houses, accompanied each of these steps.

"We are in constant exchange about details," says Zarbo.

Mayor Sturm refers to four resolutions for a wooden floor in the school.

A powerful argument against the carpet is the danger for allergy sufferers, he explains.

In addition, the municipal council had pointed out that the children were not allowed to spill anything or draw with chalk.

Beier, on the other hand, maintains that the first floor is planned in such a way that there won't be any messing around there.

Carpet or not: The Parents' Council would like to have another discussion with the municipal councils and would like "cooperation on an equal footing".

"We really didn't make it easy for ourselves and have already voted four times on the carpet alone," emphasizes Sturm.

"The decision has been made." To improve the mood between the two parties, however, he has been using mediators for a year.

"We're trying to find a solution so that we can work together again."
