The UN reports that numerous people are said to have been raped by Russian soldiers in the war against Ukraine. Victims are therefore not only women, but also men - of all ages.

The United Nations is reviewing reports that Russian soldiers are raping men and boys in Ukraine.

This was reported by UN and Ukrainian officials at a press conference in Kyiv.

However, the reports have not yet been verified, said Pramila Patten, the UN special envoy on sexual violence during the war.

She added that male rape survivors can find it particularly difficult to report the crimes.

“It is difficult for women and girls to report [rape] because of the stigma, among other things, but it is often even more difficult for men and boys.

We need to create this safe space for all victims to report cases of sexual violence," she was quoted as saying by Britain's Guardian.

There are still not enough contact points that men could turn to.

Up to now, it has been difficult to record the numerous criminal offenses.

There are reports of rape of men and women of all ages.

Both children and seniors are victims of the attacks.

It is clear that "on an active battlefield we cannot expect accurate accounting," Patten said.

However, they will not wait for hard data and statistics to act.

Patten promised rape victims in Ukraine that international law "would not be an empty promise."

“Today's documentation will be tomorrow's law enforcement.

And I want you to know that your rights do not end when wars begin."

She asked the victims to come forward.

Patten went on to say, "Your bodies are not a battlefield and must never be treated as part of the battlefield."
