Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zlansky said tonight (Wednesday) that he had spoken with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett about the remarks of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

He called Lavrov's remarks, which he compared to Hitler, claiming that "some of the worst anti-Semites were Jews," "scandalous and unacceptable."

Zlansky recounted the conversation with the prime minister in a videotaped message he posted tonight on his telegram account.

Lavrov caused a stir when he said earlier this week in an interview with an Italian television channel that the fact that Zalansky is Jewish is irrelevant as it is known that Hitler also had Jewish roots, and therefore this does not contradict the fact that there are Nazi elements operating in Ukraine.

The statement provoked a wave of condemnation in Israel, including on the part of Bennett himself, who said that "the Holocaust of the Jewish people should be stopped immediately as a tool for political crackdown."

The Russian ambassador to Israel was invited for a clarification call after the remarks.

Russia accuses: "Lapid's remarks clarify why Israel supports neo-Nazis in Ukraine"

In a condemnation issued by Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, he said that he "offers Lavrov to read a history book, the Russian government should apologize to the Jews and the survivors, an inappropriate statement."

He went on to say that "things are unforgivable, it is to blame the Jews for their own Holocaust. I look at it and wonder what they are even trying to say? The Russians have sharpened the tone against the whole world because of the unjustified invasion, we condemned it from day one."

In response to Lapid's remarks, Russia attacked Israel and accused the government of supporting neo-Nazis in Ukraine.

"Lapid ignores the plague of demolishing monuments in memory of the true Righteous Among the Nations - Red Army soldiers who stopped the Holocaust and saved the Jewish people," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"How many times has the Israeli Foreign Ministry summoned the ambassadors of Poland, Bulgaria and the Baltic states to protest?"

The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that "during the Holocaust there were Jews who were forced to take part in Nazi crimes, but Zalansky himself speculates about his roots cooperating with the Nazis consciously and voluntarily. He hides behind his origins but surrounds himself with neo-Nazis "Zalanski's Jewish origin is not a guarantee of protection against neo - Nazism in the country."

A statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry said that there were Jews who collaborated with the Nazis during the Holocaust.

"The Germans appointed Jewish industrialists as ghetto and Judenrat leaders and some are remembered for committing monstrous acts," the statement said.
