The city of Penzberg awarded the couple Ottilie and Joachim Randzio the climate and environmental protection prize for their house - as an "ecological role model with almost zero CO2 emissions".

The Roche Innovation Prize also went to the Bund Naturschutz for the “Energy Saving Village” game.

The "Spatzennest" kindergarten also received a prize.

Penzberg – Originally, the prizes were to be awarded at the citizens’ assembly in 2021.

But it was canceled due to the corona pandemic.

Now this has been made up for in the meeting of the building and environment committee.

Mayor Stefan Korpan (CSU) recalled that the city primarily wanted to award "innovative and clever ideas".

There were four suggestions.

The climate and environmental protection prize was awarded under this name for the first time.

In 2017 it was still called the Citizen Energy Prize.

Penzberger Climate Protection Award: 1st place for the Randzio couple

The Penzberg Climate Advisory Board chose the couple Ottilie and Joachim Randzio for first place, endowed with 2000 euros, for their "sustainable and efficient housing project".

Mayor Korpan praised the fact that they had created an "ecological model with almost zero CO2 emissions" through environmentally friendly construction and wastewater disposal, rainwater harvesting and the use of renewable energies such as geothermal energy, solar thermal energy and photovoltaics.

Joachim Randzio said they want to encourage everyone who builds to consistently use these opportunities, especially near-surface geothermal energy.

It is criminally neglected, but is possible in 98 percent of cases.

Randzio advertised that one could become independent of CO2-intensive heating methods.

The Roche Innovation Prize, endowed with 1,000 euros, was also awarded at the meeting on Tuesday.

It went to the Penzberger Bund Naturschutz for the business game "Energy-saving Village Bavaria".

Pupils slip into the roles of local politicians, farmers, craftsmen and power plant operators.

They discuss how energy can be saved in their village of 8,000 inhabitants.

They make decisions and are supposed to understand the connections.

In the past, middle school students, junior high school students and high school students played it in Penzberg, mediated by the Penzberger Bund Naturschutz.

However, it was not invented by the Penzbergers.

The physicist Peter Satzger from Landsberg developed and built it about ten years ago.

Since then it has been used by the Bund Naturschutz in Bayern.

According to Helmut Hermann, one of the game consultants, there are now five of these simulation games in Bavaria, funded by the state government.

Before Corona, they were used more than 100 times a year, mainly in schools.

"We're glad they won't let us atone for it"

Roche Plant Manager Ulrich Opitz spoke to Hannelore Jaresch at the presentation of the innovation award.

Chairwoman of the Penzberger Bund Naturschutz, from a great idea.

Young people would learn what they will not forget throughout their lives.

It wouldn't hurt "even some of us adults to experiment with the energy-saving village," says Opitz.

Jaresch said the price was a big surprise.

Everyone knows that the Bund Naturschutz is keeping a critical eye on the planned Roche expansion.

The price is certainly not a bribe, she joked.

"We will continue on our way and are pleased that they will not let us atone for it." If you come together in the end and achieve something for people and nature, "we have achieved our goal".

Whereupon Opitz said: "We look forward to your critical support."

Climate Protection Prize: Second place for Spatzennest

In addition, the Penzberger Bund Naturschutz and the "Energiespardorf" came third in the city's climate and environmental protection prize, which was worth 600 euros.

The second prize, worth 1,000 euros, went to the “Spatzennest” kindergarten on Daserweg, which was newly built in 2018.

Mayor Korpan said that its roof areas were equipped with 78 photovoltaic modules.

In this way, the "Spatzennest gGmbH" contributes to improving the environmental balance and reducing the emission of air pollutants.

In addition, the children are introduced to an environmentally conscious way of life during the daily educational work with Ramadama, toy-free time or the self-cultivation of fruit and vegetables.

One possible step forward, Korpan said, would be to purchase an energy storage device.

"Spatzennest" managing director Monika Scheer assured:
