At the Renault Technocentre in Guyancourt, maintenance workers swept away by telework and cost reduction

Employees of a service provider who operates in the automotive group's research and development center have been on strike since Tuesday

Bad surprise early this Thursday morning for several maintenance workers at the Technocentre Renault, the site dedicated to the "R&D" of the automotive group, in Guyancourt (Yvelines).

Arrived at the premises, the access badges had been deactivated.

"We are blocking access to the strikers," grumbles one of them.

A social movement began Tuesday among the employees of PEI, a service provider who provides cleaning.

There had already been two days of strike last week.

"The management closes part of the Technocentre on Friday, it reduces the airfoil and at least thirty people are very worried about their jobs", deplores a South Renault delegate who came in support.

This situation would be a direct consequence of the reduction of costs and the development of teleworking, a large number of the 9,500 employees of the automotive group based in Guyancourt working in offices.

"Renault is facing a drop in the number of visitors to its sites"

The automotive group is justified by the strengthening of this practice since the health crisis: “Renault is facing a drop in attendance at its sites and has decided to put certain buildings on standby on Fridays since April 22.

We have therefore reviewed our needs regarding the provision of services.

Regarding the maintenance of the research and development center, the new contract will take effect on May 20th.

"Until then, we will continue to ensure full payment to the provider," wants to reassure management.

Which cannot intervene in the management of human resources of PEI, a company based in Essonne which intervenes in more than 2,000 companies in France.

A shared concern

Enough to leave the maintenance workers bitter.

"Me, I've been working here for ten years," whispers a PEI delegate at the Technocentre.

Before that, I was at the Rueil-Malmaison (Hauts-de-Seine) site.

Seventeen years in total.

And again, some here have thirty years of house.

For the Sud Renault union, this movement also reflects "a big general concern" for the group's employees, in a context of uncertainty in the automobile market linked to the shortage of semiconductors - which the Renault-Flins plant has made costs -, cost reduction and change of global strategy.

“There are cuts all over the place”, points out the union, which reports several walkouts a year ago against an outsourcing of the maintenance of test means.

In the boxes, a project would aim to reduce by a quarter the surface of the Technocentre and to sell the premises in order to become a tenant.

“We are indeed looking to reduce the group's real estate footprint, but to date, this is still the subject of discussion, warns the group.

Nothing is done.
